In the 1960's a man named Ernest Becker developed a psychological theory that the fear of death is the prime motivator for subconscious behavior. He argued that people believe in things like religion in order to increase their sense of security and to deny their mortality. The play "Julius Caesar" is about a senate plot to murder the titular character and the subsequent battle between those still loyal to Caesar and his murderers. The character Marcus Antonius (I'll be referring to him as "Antony" from now on) is one of Caesars loyal supporters and is an extremely good public speaker who well knows how to use sarcasm and reverse psychology to turn a croup to his opinion.
