What It Means to Go Back to School
Summary: Going back to school as an adult results in a number of positive outcomes. It means greater marketability for jobs in the future; being a role model for one's children; better pay; and the feeling of self-satisfaction that comes from doing something good for yourself. As the proverb from Lloyd C. Best's book The Student Companion says, "You are never too old to learn."
When a person is lucky enough to have some sort financial help for their tuition - whether partial or full - available to them, full advantage should be taken of that opportunity. Therefore, it will be foolhardy of me not to make best of such opportunities.
Education vs. Experience: Yes! I have experience, but in today's society, it is an extremely lucky individual who can get decent-paying employment without having a college background or degree. When you browse through the classified ads, online job-hunt sites, or even the job fairs you will notice that the requirement for a simple secretarial or administrative assistant position level of education is a Bachelors of Arts degree plus experience. I sometimes ask myself, "Why is this"" The only assumption that comes to mind, is that the hiring company believes that a college educated person may be more trainable, whereas an "experienced -only...
