Effect of Agrippina's Death on Nero and the People of Rome

The assassination of Agrippina by the Praetorian Guard has a significant impact on both Nero and the people of Rome. Although she was only a woman, her legacy was left behind on Rome and now history has developed a view of her and the impact of her life.

Towards the end of Agrippina's life, her influence over Nero had a significant decline. Evidence of this is found in coins. One coin issued during the reign of Nero featured Agrippina yet again with Nero on the obverse side. This time Agrippina is behind whereas Nero is in the foreground showing his newfound independence. This ultimately led to Nero organising members of the Praetorian Guard to assassinate her. Tacitus states that Agrippina allegedly "cried out, `Strike here' pointing to her womb" because that is where she had carried Nero.
