A Eulogy for Macbeth

Summary: A eulogy for the title character of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," as if it were presented by one of his fellow soldiers. The speech addresses Macbeth's dignity, strength and courage and reflects upon his difficult decisions as needed to protect his wife and country.
Presented by a Soldier of the Scottish Army:

Beloved brothers and sisters, friends and family, Thanes, Generals and Royalty alike, (pause) we are gathered here today in mourning, grieving the passing our devoted King, Macbeth. Macbeth shall indeed be remembered in history as a dignified and courageous soldier and leader, who fought with a fierce patriotism and belief in Scotland. Although his reign was complicated and short-lived, we will always be reminiscent of his ability to instigate a unique and individual pride amongst his countrymen. (pause) Making all his decisions with careful thought, Macbeth endorsed his own distinguishing ideals and principles to the very end. Scotland has lost a characteristic and committed monarch, and those of us who had the chance to know him personally are now without a friend whose good nature shall always be remembered. (pause)
