George Grenville and the French and Indian War
Summary: Ponders what George Grenville could have done to prevent the Seven Years War (otherwise known as the French and Indian War). Offers an alternative scenario which could have prevented the conflict by treating the American colonists more fairly.
Had the British been more resourceful in their quest to pay off their war debt,
perhaps the relationship between the American colonies and England would have been
less hostile. If I were the British treasury minister of Britain of 1763, George Grenville,
there are a lot of tactics I would have done differently to reduce the damaging affects of
the Seven Years War. This war, otherwise known as the French and Indian War would
have just concluded. And we (being Britain) would be in great national debt. It would be
very important to our society to have the debt demolished or at least reduced. Though
there seems to be no one way of pleasing all parties and reducing debt rates at the same
time, I have come up with plenty of alternatives to taxing the hell out of the people who
should be our allies, instead of our enemies...
