The Role of American Government
Summary: The U.S. government's primary role is to ensure the economic and social well-being of its citizens. A controversial debate that rises from this responsibility concerns the degree to which and how the government should be actively involved. Areas of continued government involvement include assistance to small business and reducing the poverty level.
Even though American spirit and pride is practically unparalleled and our urge to carry on is unquenchable, our government's foremost objective is still centered upon satisfying the needs of the people because it is a government of the people. That being said, the government's role to the people consists of ensuring economic prosperity or, at the least, economic security and guaranteeing the social well-being of all of the citizens of the country. One controversial debate rising from the government accomplishing these primary responsibilities it has to the people is how much the government should involve itself and how they should do so.
