How Australian Drama Explores Significant Experiences
The plays Seven Stages of Grieving and Gary's House use a variety of different forms and conventions to discover and convey the significant experiences of living in Australia. The play Seven Stages of Grieving deals with the past and present struggles and issues the Aborigines have to overcome. It also touches on the impact the white population have had on Aborigines and their everyday life. All these points are explored on stage by using multifarious performance styles, relevant Aboriginal experiences and a variety of symbols to convey the Aboriginal experience in Australia. Gary's House doesn't deal with as many difficult subjects as Seven Stages of Grieving. It mostly explores issues like the Australian Dream, dysfunctional families and the underclass but it has an element of sombreness...
