Alexis de Tocqueville on America
Summary: Over 150 years ago in his classic book Democracy in America, the French writer Alexis de Tocqueville agreed with the way in which America was governed. Tocqueville observed that its emphasis on freedom and equality made America great; thus it made sense to him that a democratic government, in which all citizens have a say in the decision-making process, governed America. Tocqueville's observations about America still ring true today.
One may call them an American by simply being a loyal citizen to their own country. However no one really knows what freedom in America truly is. Alexis De Tocqueville, a historian writer of Democracy In America, believed in America in the sense that he felt America was almost all equal. He concurred with a lot of America's decisions. Tocqueville believed America was a country ran properly 150 years ago, and it has not changed since.
