The battle of women's rights has been a battle lasting over the centuries. The stores of two women that battled for their rights have been displayed in the texts, Raise the Red Lantern, by Zhang Yimou, and A Dolls House by Henrik Ibsen. The issues raised within these texts highlighted that the women portrayed were clearly unequal to men. This is shown by the way the male figures dominate over females, treating them as mere possessions and exercising excessive power and control over them. Although similar in some ways, these two texts draw attention to different ways in which males dominated over females.
