Why Did Count Stauffenbergs Attempt to Kill Hitler Fail?
When the national socialists gained power in 1933, they immediately built up a totalitarian state that crushed every opposition during its establishing. Furthermore, many Germans were so blinded in cause of the Nazis success in foreign countries as well as in Germany, they didn't even think of carrying out an overthrow of the Hitler regime. The ones that were critical towards the government, had different reasons for opposing the regime. The danger of being discovered was very high, therefore it was very difficult for the individual factions to work together against the Nazi regime. Eventually, in 1943, the civil resistance and the military opposition collaborated . Their common aim was to cause Hitler's death and to overthrow the national socialist regime. The probably most famous attempt to kill Hitler and his closest consultants was carried out on July 20 1944, by Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg.
