True Understanding Within Families in "All Families are Psychotic"
Throughout life mankind has had one goal, to reach and attain a form of happiness, however only through his failed attempts was he able to realize what he was searching for. In All Families are Psychotic by Douglas Coupland, Ted Drummond seems to act as the conscious of mankind for the everlasting search for stability in life. Ted seems to ruin the life of every person he encounters but it is these seemingly harmful actions that cause his family to truly understand who they are, the meaning of suffering and pain, and thus what happiness is relative to their own beliefs and lifestyle. It can therefore be said that Ted's actions are necessary for the lives of his family to grow and prosper as time passes.
