A History of the Ku Klux Klan
Summary: A history of the Ku Klux Klan in 1865 to its marginal status today.
The original Ku Klux Klan was established on December 24,1865, in Pulaski, Tennessee. It was founded by Confederate veterans (Wikipedia). They were bored with the peacetime after the war so they started a secret society, the Ku Klux Klan, in hopes to find some entertainment. The name Ku Klux came from the Greek word "kuklos." Kuklos means circle. They added the word Klan at the end because they liked the way it sounded (Ingalls, 9).
The Klansmen wore white robes with hoods, to mask their faces, they represented the ghosts of the fallen confederate soldiers taking revenge on their enemy. Another explanation of the hooded robes is the anonymity of good works. The Klansmen believed their works were given to them by God, the robes symbolized humility. Also, the second Klan had flags.
