Summary: Ben Mikaelsen's book Touching Spirit Bear is about Cole Matthews, an angry, hateful juvenile offender who blames everyone but himself for his actions. Cole is sent to live on an Alaskan island for one year as punishment for beating up another young man; his experiences there, particularly the Spirit Bear's attack on him, taught him that life was too short to continue doing wrong.
Touching Spirit Bear written by Ben Mikaelsen was about Cole Matthews who had nothing inside of him but anger, rage, and hate. Cole has been in trouble for years but now he is in the worse ever after smashing Peter's head against the sidewalk and possibly leaving him with brain damage. The main characters in this book are Cole, Peter, his mom and dad, Garvey, and Edwin. The problem in this book is that Cole blames everyone for his actions except for himself.

The first event, in the book was when Cole was sent to live on an island in Alaska by himself for a whole year. This was his punishment for beating up Peter a ninth grader that he had picked on many times. Cole had robbed a hardware store and after robbing it he trashed it.
