Problems with Censorship in the United States
Summary: A policy of banning literature and works outweighs the positive effects. Restricting a child's ability to reach their full intellectual potential is not worth the small chance that the music industry, media, and books can possibly have an affect on a child's personality, attitude, or behavior. It is also evident that even though schools, churches, the media, parents, and the music industry have the power to control what the youth of America is exposed to does not mean that it is in the best interest of the child or young teenager to be protected.
Throughout history censorship has always had a drastic affect on society. It has provoked, what seems like, a never-ending battle between whether or not certain material is right or wrong. For decade's schools, churches, the media, parents, and the music industry have struggled to decide what is appropriate and inappropriate for young adults to be exposed to. After many years of certain individuals and groups expressing their feelings on the issue, the controversy has seized to end. By analyzing the positive and negative issues of censorship, better understanding of the negative affects it forces on young adults will be evident.
