Omaha's history is filled with fascinating characters, amazing accomplishments and more than a few leaps of faith. Two major things in Omaha's history were the riots of the 1960s and Aksarben.

In the 1960s, many blacks lived in the Near North Side of Omaha. When they began looking for jobs, they found that they could not leave the Near North Side due to an increase in alienation in Omaha. They were upset at this because the Near North Side was "an environment unfit for human habitation." These conditions led to "lawless intention." The first riot occurred on July 4, 1966 in front of the Safeway grocery store. A teenaged boy threw a firecracker at a police officer and chaos broke out. Four days later the National Guard was called in. On August 3, a man was shot and killed after fleeing from the police. A few days later, a planed riot...
