By the late 1800's, only forty different kinds were known. Raspberries come in different colors: red, black, yellow, purple, and white. The most commonly eaten are the red and black raspberries. The raspberry has been around since early Roman times - over 2000 years. The Romans were introduced to the raspberry from the Greeks. The raspberry takes the name from the English word rasp, which means to make a harsh and grating sound.
