Comparison of "The Charmer" and "Treading Water"
Summary: Car accidents as plot points in two short stories, "The Charmer" by Budge Wilson and "Treading Water" by Sammantha Warwick.
You notice more and more car accidents in morning papers. Many of which are caused by alcohol or drugs, while others are a direct result of pure innocence. In Treading Water by Samantha Warwick, she is faced with the daunting task of coping with her brother's car accident & training her students for an upcoming swim competition. She desperately tries to manage her time to train her kids and help her brother who is in critical condition. Fighting for her brother to recover, she has another dilemma on her hands. One of her students, Scott, has difficulty catching up to the other students. He gets extremely frustrated and suddenly begins to cry. Samantha tells him that this isn't a crying thing, obviously referring to her brother - however I believe this to be false. Why are people so confused about other peoples' emotions? Young or olds, people react/respond...
