Abraham Lincoln is probably the most eminent president who ever lived. He was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. After his mother died from the "milk sick", the Lincoln family, now consisting of Abraham, Thomas, his father, and his stepmother, Sarah, decided to move to Illinois to avoid further contamination by this epidemic. Sometime after that, Lincoln was, out of the blue, called on to make a short speech on a local candidate for office. It is said that he made the best speech of the day.
As a Whig in 1842, Lincoln attempted nomination as Congressman in 1842 and 1844; it was gained in 1846. He was known as a popular and confident Congressman in his time, because he would not fear supporting his own positions, like when he and his fellow Congressmen attacked President James K.
