Summary: The different functions of poetry.
Poetry has many different subjects and structures. When looked up in a dictionary you might find the definition for poetry as being a "literary composition written in verse with meaning", but to me poetry is much more then words. Emily Dickinson said, "If I read a book and it makes my body so cold no fire ever can warm me, I know that is poetry." I think she meant that poetry has the capability of making a person feel stronger emotions then ever thought. Poetry is a way of expressing your deepest feelings and innermost thoughts. It has the power to make you feel many different ways. Dylan Thomas once said "Poetry is what makes me laugh or cry or yawn, what makes my toenails twinkle, what makes me want to do this or that or nothing." It can make you feel many different things.
