Summary: One of the greatest women that ever lived was St. Catherine of Siena. She was the youngest child in a large family. At six years of age, she received a vision in which Jesus appeared to her and blessed her.
One of the greatest women that ever lived was St. Catherine of Siena. She was the youngest child in a large family. At six years of age, she received a vision in which Jesus appeared to her and blessed her. The Lord asked her, "Please give me your heart," when he appeared, and she did. In return she got His Sacred Heart and blessed her.

She refused to marry against her family's wishes. Instead she was called to betrothal, or to be married to Christ. She cut all her hair off as a sign. She punished by her family by treating her like a servant. She then put on the habit of Dominican Tertiary. She said that her "cell would not be one of stone or wood, but of self-knowledge."
