Rudolph Hess, often confused with the Rudolph Hoess, the German officer in charge of Auschwitz, was Hitler's faithful follower for many years. From the day he joined the Nazi party, to his imprisonment in West Berlin's Spandau prison and even after, he was a fanatical devotee of Adolf Hitler.
Rudolph Hess was born on April 26th, 1894 in Alexandria, Egypt. His father was in the wholesale and exporting business. During the First World War, Hess volunteered for the German armed forces to get away from the pressure his father put on him to take over the family business. During his career in World War I, he was wounded twice and he eventually became a pilot for the German air force, which would come into play later in his life.
