In 1521, in a country that did not have any formal religion, something happened to convert 9 million people to Christianity. The Virgin Mary appeared to an Indian man in a country that had been invaded by Spanish forces. At first all he heard were birds singing. Then he heard a voice and saw a beautiful lady. She spoke the native language but gave herself a name in Spanish; Guadalupe.

On December 9, 1531, the 55 year old man named Juan Diego was rushing down tepeyac hill to get to mass service when the Blessed Virgin appeared to him.
