The Masks We Wear: The Swipe and Wangero

Summary: Compares and contrasts two characters, the Swipe and Wangero, from Alice Walker's short story The Complication. Describes differences in social backgrounds, education and personality.
People can have as many different masks as the number of people they associate with. In the two stories we read, we looked into the lives of two characters. The Swipe and Wangero. In this essay I will compare and contrast the similarities and differences between these two. As you will see the two are very much alike with a few differences.

There are many similarities between these two characters. First off, in their stories both characters pretend to be someone they're not. Starting on paragraph 45 on page 86, the swipe completely lies to Lucy Wessen pretending to be some rich man from Marietta, when in fact he was from a "lower class" family and as well a different place. Wangero changes from her original name, which was Dee, to her new name, Wangero. She dresses all-fancy in accordance to her African heritage as is she has been brought...
