Should All Credit for Founding Singapore Go to Raffles?
Summary: Ask any person walking in Raffles Place "Who founded Singapore?" and he would probably look at you astonished and reply, "Raffles, lor". It is hard for anyone to think otherwise, with Raffles Place interchange an integral part of commuters' daily repertoire of places to visit and students being taught from Primary School that "Raffles came in 1819 and founded Singapore." However, there may be another side to the story, or even sides. What about the two Scotsmen; Farquhar and Crawfurd, both British Residents in Singapore?

Sadly, many Singaporeans will either be unaware of these men and their contributions to Singapore or they have forgotten about them. It is sad, but understandable, as there are no well known places in Singapore in which their names feature prominently, Crawfurd not even having a minor street...
