The Hardest Thing

Summary: A girl's struggle with her father having cancer has much to do with bravery, both in terms of herself and in terms of others.
In 2001, when I was in seventh grade, my family found out that my father had cancer. It was not serious, but it could still kill him if not treated immediately. I remember the morning when my parents had told my sister and me. It was a Saturday or Sunday morning, and my sister was eating her breakfast and I was reading the comics. My mom and dad then came into the kitchen and stood across the table from us.

"What's up"" asked my sister, Carrie.

"Your father and I have something to tell you, Kathie...could you please stop reading the comics" demanded my mom. "Go on and tell them Dan."

"I have cancer. It's a minor case, but it is enough to kill me if I do not treat it properly and quickly" my dad mumbled.
