The Third Commandment and the Sabbath in The Bible

Summary: The Third Commandment and what it means to observe the Sabbath.
Of all the commandments, the third commandment is hardest one to interpret. What can you do one the day of the Sabbath? God tells us that we should do his work on the Sabbath and may not buy or sell, do sports, and any of those sorts of things. Many people work on the day of the Sabbath. Some of them have no choice to work unless they want to get fired. Does this mean they are breaking the third commandment every time they work on that day?

Most people I know do not go to church on the Sabbath or worship Yahweh either. Think about if this code was truly enforced in the law that if you did not stop all types of activity, it would be considered breaking the law. In Numbers 15:32-36 a man was caught collecting sticks on the Sabbath, and he got stoned by the people he knew. To truly follow this commandment you really must stop everything you would normally do. You cannot have anything that has to do with fire, you cannot travel, and you cannot do any type of business. To break this law would mean death. In our society, I believe people could not abide by this rule. This commandment is broken every Sabbath by many, many people.

Keeping the Sabbath day holy includes worship in honor of God's rest on the seventh day in the story of creation. It is a day to reflect on your self to see who you were, and whose you were. From this also comes many restrictions which is what makes this holy day so complicated. Can you keep the Sabbath"
