The History of San Juan Capistrano
On October 30,1775, Father Fermin Lasuen erected a cross and dedicated San Juan Capistrano. Eight days after the dedication some news arrived from a mission named San Diego which halted the mission's brief existence. Some Indians attaked and killed one of the San Diego padres.
San Juan Capistrano is also known as " Jewel of the Missions." San Juan Capistrano was the only mission that was founded twice. The first time it was founded was in 1775. The person who found it was Fray Junipero Serra, the president of the missions. Fray Serra was born on November 24, 1713, in Majorca, Spain. Fray Serra taught philosophy for 12 years and believed in Catholic faith and became a missionary in order to teach others about it.
