Alternative Medicine: Why Millions Use It
Summary: Explores the field of alternative medicine. Describes trends and discusses why more people are turning toward alternative medicine.
In a 1997 survey over two- thousand people 42 percent of the population surveyed said
that they used at least one type of alternative therapy (www.journalclub.org 1). Every year
more and more people find alternative or holistic medicine the way to prevent common ache
and pains. Many even go as far as to say that these types of therapies could cure cancer, heart
disease, and many other more serious diseases. The most popular of these alternative
medicines are acupuncture, reflexology, magnet therapy, accupressure and herbal remedies.
People use these therapies because alternative medicine is more cost affective, it has less drug
or surgery side affects, and it also prevents and builds up the immune system, much better
then Western Medicine does.
