In the novel, "The Golden Goblet", Ranofer is the main character. In the story, Ranofer faces many conflicts, the main one being that he must prove his suspicion that his evil stepbrother Gebu, is stealing gold. Throughout this book, Ranofer under goes a drastic change in mental strength and courage.

The author starts the book in a goldsmiths shop and Ranofer was creating an ingot and dreaming about making a piece of decoration for a noble mans dagger or a cup for the pharaoh. Then later, the character of Ibni is introduced. Ranofer had been suspecting that inside the wineskins he had been delivering to Gebu as a gift from Ibni, really had gold in it.
