Cuba is an island country in the West Indies, about 90 miles south of Florida. Cuba consists of one major island and more than 1600 smaller islands. Cuba is almost as large as the state Pennsylvania. Havana is the capitol of Cuba and is also the largest city. For about 400 years Spain ruled Cuba. During this time they had many hardships and deaths. After Cuba won its independence with the help of the U.S. two dictators took control of Cuba. The first one was Fulgencio Batista and Fidel Castro.
Cuba has a population of about 9 million people. More than half of the people live in cities and towns. But about 500,000 Cubans have left their homeland since 1959 revolution.
