Progressivism
In the early twentieth century a movement known as progressivism, arouse in the United States. During the terms of these presidents, Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson, they instituted a new set of reforms to improve American life by increasing democracy and achieving economical and social justice.
Prior to the progressive movement, America was in the midst of a 19th century liberal, Whig phase. Which stressed the notion of laissez faire, the belief that the government should leave the economy alone. Laissez faire is ultimately the gateway to the booming economical rise of the "big company." Men such as Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan and Gould seize control of virtually the entire economy of America. The economy was so unevenly balanced between the business tycoons to the factory workers, immigrants and farmers.
