The play -`An Inspector Calls'- is set pre war times, written by J.B. Priestley. It is set in the fictional north midlands city of Brumley. It is a play that is not there just to entertain. But to deliver an important Socialist against Capitalist message, which proves to be an interesting edge on the play later in the play. There are several tensions in the play, and these tensions prove to be very important in structuring the text. Priestley adds that vital tension to the play through stage directions, dialogue, lighting, dramatic irony and exits and entrances.
