In this interview with Ernest James Gaines, he is asked a series of questions. The purpose of the opening question was to determine Gaines' impressions of Europe and the way Europeans criticize his work compared to Americans. His response was that Europeans, especially residents of France, accepted his work and praised him more than any others in the States. The interviewer goes on to ask how and where he learned to be so authentic and specific in his writing. His reply was he simply stole the technique from a fellow author, Faulkner.
