Firstly, Filomento develops the plot without using any irony except when Bruno and Buffalmacco discuss the trick. He gets to the point where Calendrino is tricked and then the irony of the story kicks in. Bruno and Buffalmacco steal Calendrino's pig but of course this is really a trick that the two of them are playing on Calendrino.
