Mitosis
Purpose:
- To examine the various stages of mitosis in Allium (Onion) and in whitefish blastula.
- To compare mitosis in animals and in plants.
- To determine the amount of time spent in each stage of mitosis in Allium.
- To graph time for mitosis to occur in the onion root tip
- To draw and label cells in various stages of mitosis.
Prepared slides of Allium and Whitefish Blastula.
Microscope
Procedures:
Part 1
Locate and draw all the stages of mitotic division occurring in the onion root tip. Include a drawing of interphase. Label all the drawings in the space to the right of the drawing. Summarize the changes that occur during each phase.
Part 2
Locate and draw all stages of mitotic division occurring in the white fish blastula. Label all drawings to the right of the drawings and summarize all the changes.
Part 3
