Somalia is located in eastern (central) Africa bordering the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, east of Ethiopia. It is located on the horn of Africa along the southern approaches to Bab el Mandeb and a route through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. It is surrounded by the countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Eritrea. It is slightly smaller than Texas. It is about 246,300 square miles, and 638,000 square kilometers. The geographic coordinates are 10 degrees North and 49 degrees East.
