Summary: America should have been involved in World affairs between 1890 and 1920. The wavering between isolationism and complete involvment in the global community is a consistent contradiciton that has plagued U.S. policy since the country was formed.
It has been asked many times over the years whether or not America should have gotten involved in world affairs in the form of a global power. The world would not be the place it is now if America had not entered world diplomacy. The United States should have gotten involved in world affairs to maintain allies, to strengthen our economy, and to defend ourselves.
When we refuse to assist our allies, we lose them; plain and simple. Our allies had agreed to help us in war, only when we agreed to do the same for them. When we don't help them out, we have just breached the contract and our former allies are no longer required to help us. By giving money to our allies, we create a "you owe me" stance like we help them now and it is common chivalry for them to eventually return...
