Equality in America: Segregation for African Americans

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. This statement in the Declaration of Independence establishes the quote equality in the United States, but why is it that there is still segregation. Segregation for African Americans in the United States is still prominent.
Segregation can be observed almost in all parts of the United States. For example in Wilson High School races stand apart around the quad, rarely intermingling. This is not only occurring in high schools but can be seen in the political world.
