Summary: As Lenin’s right-hand man, Leon Trotsky played a pivotal role in the success of the Bolsheviks before 1922. His power was in demanding respect, trust and loyalty from his men, his inspirational writing and his strong battlefield tactics.
I believe that Trotsky played a very important role towards the success of the Bolsheviks up to 1922. He was Lenin's right hand man. The threat behind the leaders policies and the one that made them happen. Leon Trotsky demanded respect, trust and loyalty from his men and was essential in many of the party's successes up to Lenin's death in 1924.

Leon Trotsky was the mastermind behind the October 1917 revolution. Trotsky organized the revolution to take place at night in Petrograd, when the new Provisional Government would be least expecting an attack. Trotsky ordered the Red Army to seize the major buildings in Petrograd. These included: the city's bridges, the railway stations, power stations and the post offices.
