Hamlet's Motives for Delaying His Revenge
In Shakespeare's renowned play, Hamlet, the main character struggles with two opposing forces: moral integrity and the need to avenge his father's murder. Throughout the play Hamlet debates weather he should take revenge on his uncle for his alleged role in his father's cold murder. Hamlet's ambivalence about the authenticity of the apparition of his father delays his plan of action. However, Hamlet mostly delays his revenge because his moral and religious beliefs encumber his courage to take action.
Hamlet hesitates to take action against King Claudius because of the fact that his orders come from an apparition of his father. The apparition delivered the message unto him revealing the culprit of his father's murderer which certainly coincides with the person he doubted but he must still make sure that the apparition is truly his father`s.
