Summary: "The Phone Call" by Berton Roueche' was about a man who goes to a nearby home to use the phone for help but has a knife pulled on him. The second story, "A&P" by John Updike was about a clerk who quits his job after the store manager embarrasses three girls in bathing suits. Another story was "The finish of Patsy Barnes" by Paul Laurence Dunbar, a story about a boy who races a horse to get money to help his mother. During the winter break our class was assigned to read four stories.
