When I first picked up the book The Incomparable Atuk, I didn't quite know what to expect. It's about a poet, Atuk, from Baffin Island who gets transplanted to Toronto in the 1950's to promote his poetry. He is unlikely to succeed and no one believes in him, not even The Great One from his tribe. When Atuk arrives in Toronto he goes an agent and gets him to read his poetry and the manager agrees to be with him as long as he keeps writing, once Atuk gets settled in with living in the big city, he starts writing more and more. After having many interactions with Torontotonians, Atuk starts writing better quality poetry that his manager likes and he gets a public reading. After the reading Atuk basically turns into everyone else around him and loses his uniqueness of being an Eskimo from up north, he...
