Summary: A brief biography of the life of Charles Pinckney Jr.
On the 26th of October in 1757 Charles Pinckley, one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution, was born. Pinckney's father was a rich lawyer who left him an estate outside of the city, it was called Snee Farm. Charles began practicing law in 1779. Pinckney entered the militia and became a lieutenant. He fought at the Siege of Savannah and was captured by the British; he was a prisoner until 1781.
After the war Pinckney turned to politics. When Pinckney turned twenty-seven he was elected to the state legislature and Continental Congress. In 1787 he was unanimously chosen to head to Philadelphia to begin the formation of the U.S. Constitution. Pinckney's role in the Constitutional Convention was controversial.
