Summary: In the novel "Fools Crow" by James Welch, the two main characters, Fools Crow and Fast Horse, change throughout the novel. Fools Crow grows and matures into a leader while Fast Horse rejects his community and pays the price for his actions.
The characters of Fools Crow and of Fast Horse, in the novel Fools Crow, were very different at certain points in the story. Each of the characters will change during the novel, although Fools Crow will be the character that changes the most throughout. The characters also learn more about themselves and their future as the novel progresses.

At the start of the book Fast Horse is an arrogant and selfish person. We see this in the beginning of the novel when he goes on the raid with White Man's Dog and others to steal horses from the Crow Indians. Fast Horse is extremely reckless and some of the elders of the Pikuni nation feel that he may need to settle down or someone should control him.
