The Life and Art of Francisco Jose
Summary: A biography of Francisco Goya, the 18th century Spanish painter known for his rococo frescos and portraits.
Francisco de Goya was born on March 30th, 1746, in Fuentetodos, a village in northern Spain. After Goya was born, him and his family moved to Saragossa, where Goya's father worked as a gilder. When Francisco was 14 years old he was an apprentice to Jose Luzan, a local painter. Soon Francisco want to Italy to continue his study of art. When Goya came back to Saragossa in 1771, he painted frescoes for the local cathedral. Goya's art pieces were done in a decorative rococo tradition. These work of art paintings established Francisco's painting career.
In 1773 and 1776, Francisco competed unsuccessfully to get a scholarship to the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. If Goya had made it he would be in a studio of the court painter.
