World War 1
Summary: World War II was the worst war anyone had seen to that date. Often referred to as the "Great War", or the "War to End all Wars" because many thought there would never be another war this calamitous. Now our society knows better, war is not pretty and it changes lives forever. That is why there has not been anymore hot wars since World War ll and why the Cold War between Russia and the U.S. stayed cold, because everyone knows the damage that could potentially happen. Technology was also upgraded during this war, new weapons were created and new discoveries occurred. War helped bring countries together and unite their people. War is not necessary, but when governments resort to it, there is a lesson to be learned.

No one knew of what awaited them; the war was expected to last only a couple of months, they would be home for Christmas and life would then return to normal. The war was thought of as romantic and heroic and many men signed up to fight for their country. Once they got over to Europe it was a different story, having to live in trenches with rats, lice and dead bodies was anything but romantic.
