In Defense of Louis Riel
Summary: Despite the controversy surrounding Louis Riel, and the dispute which has arisen because of him, he will forever remain a hero and savior of the Métis people, and a model for other oppressed aboriginal people. Louis Riel has left his mark in the history of the Dominion of Canada.
Despite the controversy surrounding Louis Riel, and the dispute which has arisen because of him, he will forever remain a hero and savior of the Métis people, and a model for other oppressed aboriginal people. Louis Riel has left his mark in the history of the Dominion of Canada. The voice piece of the Métis people, both an eloquent spokesman for their aspirations, and a man who had compassion, Riel was the voice of the Métis people, and was largely responsible for the entrance of the province of Manitoba into Confederation. However, many empty-headed and prejudicial peoples regard him as a mentally unstable criminal and traitor. This is a complete load of crap and such an arbitrary ruling has no merit to it.
The Confederation in 1867, which merged the colonies of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, resulted in the need of the government...
