Summary: Description of the Summer and Winter Olympics, their symbolism, and their different traditional ceremonies, such as the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
People all over the world gather in this big event. This event is called the OLYMPICS! The Olympics is the most important international athletic competition in the world. The Olympics brings together everyone from every place. The Olympic Movement is about more than just the elite athletes. It's about fair play, team spirit, and the ability of sport to bring peace.

Every four years, a different country hosts the Olympics. I am sure everyone knows about the Olympics Games, but do you know what the Paralympic Games are? The Paralympic Games is an official equivalent of the Olympics for athletes with physical, visual, or intellectual disabilities that compete. Canada is a world leader in advancing the interests of athletes with a disability. Forty countries are expected to participate in the 2010 Paralympics Winter Games, estimated 600-800 athletes and 5,000-8,000 volunteers.
