All three poems convey the concept of physical journey through the use of many techniques but mainly the structure and vivid imagery.

Skrzynecki's three poems "Immigrants at Central Station", "Crossing the Red Sea" and "Migrant Hostel" relates to their journey to and within Australia. All three poems convey the concept of physical journey through the use of many techniques but mainly the structure and vivid imagery.
"Crossing the Red Sea" traces a physical as well as a shared emotional journey in which the migrants sail through the Red Sea. The image "from behind sunken eyes" suggests the past sufferings, and misery that the migrants have encountered during world war II. This misery is eased by the "calmness" of the sea, and of the duration of the voyage across the Red Sea.
In the last stanza of "Crossing the Red Sea" Skrzynecki uses the image of a sunrise to symbolise that the new lives of the immigrants are only starting and...
