William Blake expresses his views about the realities and harshness of London at the time in many descriptions of his poem.

Through the poem he shows his awareness of injustice and cruelty in society. He shows that the poorer people in world are treated badly upon and are not given equal rights. He shows how the richer and more dominate people gain benefits and use these types of people for their own advantage.

`The Chimneysweeper's cry' is suppose to represent an orphan who is suffering because he's being used for cleaning people's chimneys, since these children don't have parents and are small enough, the Church who are suppose to take care of them send them since they have no parents and no one else wants to do such a menial and filthy chore.
